now, he has never devoted an entire album to the wooden flute, one of
the most important instruments in Native American music. WOOD OVER WATER
shows the pure beauty and depth of the instrument. It's low, swooping
tones are light as air, yet are weighted with long-standing history and
tradition. In addition to the flute, the album features an earthy
soundscape of heartbeat drum and additional percussion instruments
(drum, rattle) that give the music a strong Native American influence.
Evenson has managed to strike a balance here between serenity and power,
not to mention create a gorgeous showcase for the natural tones of the

way into the multi-cultural collages of ethnic fusion group Shaman's
Dream, yet drums have always been the central ingredient. With that in
mind, it seems natural that producer Craig Kohland would be drawn to the
percussion-heavy landscape of Africa. Along with bandmate and frequent
collaborator Rara Avis, Kohland and company provide a unique safari
across the African landscape with AFRICAN DREAM. What makes the album so
interesting is that it sounds very tradition - yet, at times it
suddenly segues into passages of trip-hop beats and ambient electronica.
And it all happens so smoothly! Most of the songs prominently feature
traditional African instruments, like the kalimba, bongos and shakers,
alongside vocal chanting and recorded nature sounds. Nice album for
those who like contemporary African music that does not sound too

Dublin. With A CELTIC FAIR, the magical sound of Sansone's hammered

edge and earthiness, which is achieved using natural-sounding
instrumentation like the Native American flute and Tibetan singing
bowls. The music also incorporates chimes, acoustic guitar, billowing
synth ambience and other soothing keyboard effects to create an
atmosphere that ebbs and flows with tranquility. The one hour running
time and seamless transitions between songs makes it appropriate for
session use. On the other hand, if you're feeling tense and need to

album that makes you feel relaxed while listening to it, but at the same

revolve as the focal point. Producer Claude Challe champions David as
the real deal and it's not hard to see why. This is ambient music that

thirty years, Steven Halpern has built a legacy in the realm of healing
music, having crafted dozens of albums aimed at maximizing the

including PEACE OF MIND, which finds the artist at the top of his game.
Performed solo on a Yamaha C-17 Grand Piano, the music of PEACE OF MIND
is a 78 minute stream of consciousness, where the piano dances in a
fantasia of healing colors. The fact that this was completely improvised
is impressive, given that the music has much more nuance and melodic
complexity than you would expect from such an endeavor. Halpern
describes the music in the liner notes as "zen impressionism" and that
term is fitting - the use of silence fits with zen themes and the

Kamanche, Manose & Praful on bansuri flute, Ageda on swarmandal and
others, who add richness with their individual talents. The music is
